I’ve always loved the mandolin, but I always thought it would be to hard. I’m 53 years old, it would be like learning an old dog a new trick. I play the guitar and have since I was ten, but I’d sure love to play the Mandolin as well. Are they hard to learn?
Hi James –
I started playing mandolin when I was 45. I’d had a few years of guitar lessons as a kid (junior high) and had not picked up a stringed instrument in 30 years. If you’re currently playing guitar, I don’t think you’ll have much trouble picking up the mandolin. It’s tuned differently – in fifths – and seems to me that makes it easier to learn. Good Luck!
Usually I do not read post on blogs, but I would like to say that this write-up very compelled me to try and do it! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thanks, quite nice post.
